Evergreen U19s beat the weather and Ardmore Rovers

Evergreen youths had an emphatic win against Ardmore Rovers of Bray in the Leinster Cup quarter final.

Evergreen started off very impressively with Ben Hickey putting the Bray side under great pressure down the left wing and creating a number of early chances. The first few chances didn’t result in a score but the opener eventually came following a lovely through pass from Ben to Dylan Jordan who beat the keeper with a great finish.

They continued to pile on the pressure and it paid off when Evergreen scored a second goal through the lively Ben Hickey who tormented the home defence all day. They could have added another one or two with several good opportunities going begging resulting in them going in at half time 2-0 up.

Second Half

Ardmore Rovers started the second half well and the first quarter of an hour was their best spell of the game. They were rewarded for their persistence and scored to bring the game to 2-1.

The weather deteriorated at this stage resulting in a very heavy snow storm which lasted for most of the second half. Evergreen showed great heart to lift their game as Bray got their heads up, encouraged by their goal. Christian LaPuste was introduced to add fresh legs to the Evergreen midfield with Dylan Drennan, who had played well in the difficult conditions, making way.

More Evergreen substitutes entered the fray shortly afterwards with Mo Aylward coming on for Ormonde Morrissey and Bill Whelan for Darby Fwamba. Mo had an immediate impact on the game when he netted for the visitors when he broke free of the Ardmore defence before dispatching a low shot which beat the keeper from a tight angle. This left the score at 3-1 in Evergreens favour and they kicked on from here to dominate the remainder of the game scoring two more goals in the late stages through Dylan George and Ben Hickey.

It was an excellent team performance from Evergreen who now march on to the semi-final of the Leinster U19 Cup.
